# Create Bill Payment

POST https://api.coperniq.io/v1/bills/{bill_id}/payments
Content-Type: application/json

Record a manual payment against a bill.

**Request body**
- `amount`: Positive number in **dollars**
- `paymentDate`: ISO 8601 datetime string
- `paymentMethod`: One of `CASH`, `ACH`, `CREDIT_CARD`, `KLARNA`, `AFFIRM`, `CHECK`
- `notes` (optional)
- `paymentReference` (optional)

- `bill_id` (integer, required) — Bill identifier

This endpoint expects a PaymentCreate.

- `amount` (double, required) — Payment amount in dollars
- `paymentMethod` (enum, required) — Payment method
  - Allowed values: `CASH`, `ACH`, `CREDIT_CARD`, `KLARNA`, `AFFIRM`, `CHECK`
- `paymentDate` (string, required)
- `notes` (string, optional) — Optional notes about the payment
- `paymentReference` (string, optional, nullable)

- `paymentMethod` (enum, required) — Payment method
  - Allowed values: `CASH`, `ACH`, `CREDIT_CARD`, `KLARNA`, `AFFIRM`, `CHECK`
- `billNumber` (integer, optional, nullable) — Payment display number (when present)
- `paymentDate` (string, optional, nullable) — When the payment was recorded (ISO 8601); null if absent from upstream
- `paymentReference` (string, optional, nullable)
- `notes` (string, optional, nullable)
- `isExternal` (boolean, optional, nullable) — Whether the payment originated from an external processor (e.g. Stripe)
- `createdAt` (string, optional, nullable)
- `updatedAt` (string, optional, nullable)
- `createdBy` (BillPaymentCreatedBy, optional, nullable)
